For 2022, we’ve gone the extra mile for our beautifully carved Lamp Base designs using environmentally friendly Mangowood, which is sustainably sourced. The perfect way to display your handmade lampshade, we have a variety of table and floor lamp designs and heights, in unfinished wood, that can be painted, oiled or stained, for a unique look. How to WIN a Floor Lamp Base worth £99.99!

To enter our competition and WIN a June Floor Lamp, simply post a story on Instagram tagging both @needcraft_ and two friends, and make sure you are following us! It's as simple as that.


The competition will run from 9.00 am on Thursday 23rd June to midnight on Thursday 30th June.



Meet our Mangowood Lamp Bases

Each carved with its own individual hand-turned design, we have a lamp base for every room in the house. Let's introduce you to the range.


Lindsay Table Lamp - Eye-catching decorative beads sit halfway up the lamp base stem which is finished with a carved bead, just above the base.


Ruth Table Lamp – A symmetrical design with beading siting both above and below the striking vertically carved lines in the central stem of the lamp base


Annie Table Lamp – Featuring two hand-tuned beads at the top and bottom of the base, this symmetrical design has a pleasing carved spiral in the central section


June Table Lamp – Elegant, yet simple this tall lamp base features a simple hand-turned beading detail above the midway point


Sloan Designer Table Lamp – Featuring an impressive wide tapered central section, carved bead features and carved detailed steps that lead to a square base, this lamp base has a definite air of luxury



Mangowood Floor lamps

Our floor lamps – Ruth, Annie and June – all stand at 1.33 metres high and replicate the designs of their smaller siblings, listed above. Each one has been cleverly designed so it can pack down into a small box. To assemble, simply screw the two pole sections together and then screw them into the base. In addition, the cord grip is built into the lamp holder, which allows the pre-wired electrical cable to turn when screwing the parts together.


Fittings and Electrics

All our mango wood table and floor lamps have UK brass switched lamp holders fitted as standard, for a bayonet bulb and are fitted with a standard UK three pin plug fitted with 3 amp fuse and black coloured electrical lead. Each is tested in compliance with EU/UK health and safety legislation.


What is Mango Wood?

Hand-turned from sustainable Mango Wood, each lamp base has a beautiful textural finish, revealing all of the wood's stunning natural grain. Sold unfinished, the light and neutral tone of the wood can be left bare or enhanced with wax, stain, lacquer or paint to create an instant statement lamp base, to suit any surroundings.


Grown in India, Mango Wood is an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional wood used for furniture, such as Oak and Maple and is a by-product of mango fruit. Due to its fast-growing nature, mango trees reach 80-100 feet in around 15 years and after bearing fruit, they are harvested for their timber and a new generation of trees are planted. This makes Mango Wood an excellent environmental choice for our lamp bases.


Creative Lamp Bases

As with our Lampshade Making Kits, our Mango Wood Lamp Bases are completely customisable. Looking for a contemporary, textured finish? Look no further than our Ronseal Chalk Paint that comes in 8 subtle colours, has a flat matt finish and is specifically designed for painting furniture, with no primer needed!



Alternatively, if you want to keep those beautiful wood textures Danish Oil will allow them to shine through whilst also providing your lamp base with a clear protective layer. Check out our webpage for the full instructions on how to use and safety details.

Finally, if you fancy a pop of colour pick from our huge range of 23 coloured acrylic paints, that handily come in two sizes – 100ml and 250ml. With just two coats of acrylic paint, you can completely change the look and feel of your lamp base.
