#memadeshade September Winner - ETU Design

Updated: Oct 11, 2023

Congratulations to @etu_by_anabela, who has won our September #memadeshade competition! The winning shade, made in a beautifully bold tropical-inspired fabric, perfectly embodies autumn with its rich tones.

An interior designer and lampshade maker Anabela, of @etu_by_anabela, is based on the Coast Del Sol, in Spain and loves bringing bright bold patterns into her design work. It's clear that her lampshades definitely follow the same theme! And with her passion for lampshade making, we're sure Anabela will put her £100 winner voucher to spend at Dannells.com to good use. Find out more about her interior design work and lampshade making in our Q&A below.

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and the creative things that you do?

Hi, I have a degree in Architectural Technology and a Masters in interior Design. I have always been a very creative person, from sewing my own clothes to painting canvasses for my family and friends for Christmas and birthdays. I am a colour lover, I work with every print and pattern I lay my eyes on, from African inspired to botanical and florals. I have created a design studio called Etu Design, in which I cater both interior design services and lampshade making.

Are you a newbie lampshade maker or have you made up a Needcraft Lampshade making kit before?

I have bought my first kit around 2019 but only used it to make it for myself, only recently I have decided to make more as more people were showing interest.

What do you love about the shade you entered for the #memadeshade competition?

The colours! I wanted to make something that It inspires autumn but I wasn't feeling the plain look, so, when I saw the mixture of Autumn colours and the botanical-inspired painting print, I knew I had to use it!

What do you like most about the Needcraft lampshade making kits?

I just love the fact that it’s so easy and straightforward to use. Before I found Needcraft I had to buy complete PVC panels from Spain and cut them myself, which was time-consuming and wasted a lot of material. Although I had to get everything from England was actually much easier as it was open a box and I’m ready to go.

Any plans to make more lampshades?

YES! Much more, I have been experimenting with different styles, prints and finishes, the possibilities are endless and I am looking forward to trying more products that Needcraft has to offer.
