#memadeshade July Winner - The Lampshade House

Brightening up people's living spaces is the mission of Jacqui, founder of @thelampshadehouse and her winning #memadeshade lampshade certainly fits her brief! Made as a commission for a customer, this 30cm floral drum shade is bold and bright and, we imagine, very at home in Singapore, which is where @thelampshadehouse is based.

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and the creative things that you do?

I'm Jacqui, I'm British and have been living in Singapore for 18 years now. I love being crafty and making things. I've been making and refurbishing my own lampshades and those for friends, for many years now. I started the business over a year ago, as most of the shades available in Singapore are very plain...there is not much colour happening and my shades just brighten up people's living spaces beautifully.

What do you love about the shade you entered for the #memadeshade competition?

I love this fabric. One of my clients came to me with this beauty and wanted me to make a new shade with it for her existing lamp. It's so pretty.


What do you like most about the Needcraft Lampshade Making kits?

I love the products from Needcraft, they are so easy to use and of the best quality.


Any plans to make more lampshades? Yes definitely, the business is growing and shades are in demand here. I love the variation of colours and patterns that every client chooses, every day is so different. I will be brightening homes forever I'm sure :)



July's Most Liked Shades

Luxury and simplicity are the ways we'd describe July's Most Liked Shades. The rich opulence of the velvet shines through in @foresters_lampshades and @glow79luckylight, whereas nature sits centre stage in the beautiful floral creations of @alisonbickdesigns and @clementine_lampy. FantFantasticatsic to see European and South American entries too!


This peacock and peony silky velvet is one of my favourite fabrics 🌸 This 30cm drum lampshade is available from my website. Soft-bodied (hand-stitched) lampshades in this fabric can be made to order too. With drum lampshades, the fabric is bonded to flame retardant matt gold PVC, then rolled (not stitched) around the frame. It’s a neat and nifty technique creating more affordable lampshades and, for me, often a welcome intermission from sessions of hand-stitching 😃

It's super simple to enter our #memadeshade Instagram competition. Just make a lampshade from any of our lampshade making kits and follow the steps below. And if you want to check out the hashtag #memadeshade for inspiration in advance, we've had over 5000 shades enter since we started! Here's a reminder of what to do...

  1. Simply take a picture of your proudest lampshade from one of our kits and enter on Instagram following the steps below:

  2. Follow @needcraft if you haven’t already

  3. Post an image of a lampshade you’ve made from an @needcraft lampshade making kit and tag with #memadeshade and the type of kit you used i.e 30cm Drum shade kits, Square kit etc.

  4. And any size and shape can be entered so display those drums shades, exhibit your empires and reveal your rectangles – any lampshade from one of our kits counts!
