#memadeshade February Winner

Pops of colour are much needed as we finally start to leave the winter behind and this month's #memadeshade winner does not disappoint! Huge congratulations go to Alison of @maggiemootextiles for her fab, retro-style shade that's made from beautifully bold and bright vintage fabric, with a textured and silky feel.

Maggie Moo Textiles is the creative brainchild of Alison, who makes stunning vintage and retro style lampshades and cushions, from carefully sourced fabrics originating from the '50s, ’60s and ’70s with a handful from the present day.


Incorporating everything from psychedelic prints to artistic textural bark cloths, Alison’s eye for a fantastic fabric, and talent for making lampshades bring new life to prints and patterns of old and new, all of which are ready to purchase in her Etsy shop. Treasuring every fabric she sources, combined with her ethos of no waste, Alison often makes coin purses from her scraps or donates her scraps to other makers.


Previously training as a nurse in her late thirties, Alison had to retire due to a medical condition but has found her passion in skills she learnt from her grandmother, such as sewing, knitting and cross-stitch. A married mum of three grown-up children, and a mum to a happy household of animals, when she’s not busy sourcing fabrics or making for Maggie Moo Textiles, you’ll find her in the outdoors, dog walking, cycling or camping.

Enter our #memadeshade competition


It's super simple to enter our #memadeshade Instagram competition. Just make a lampshade from any of our lampshade making kits and follow the steps below. And if you want to check out the hashtag #memadeshade for inspiration in advance, we've had over 5000 shades enter since we started!


Here's a reminder of what to do...

  1. Simply take a picture of your proudest lampshade from one of our kits and enter on Instagram following the steps below:

  2. Follow @needcraft if you haven’t already

  3. Post an image of a lampshade you’ve made from an @needcraft lampshade making kit and tag with #memadeshade and the type of kit you used i.e 30cm Drum shade kits, Square kit etc.

  4. And any size and shape can be entered so display those drums shades, exhibit your empires and reveal your rectangles – any lampshade from one of our kits counts!
