There’s something special about linen. Its natural texture, gentle drape, and timeless elegance make it one of the most beautiful fabrics to work with - especially when it comes to lampshade making.
We’re delighted to introduce our brand-new Pure Linen fabric collection, designed with makers, designers and lighting lovers in mind. Whether you craft statement pendants, bedside table lamps, or bespoke drum shades, this fabric will elevate your work.
Read on to find out more about the collection, including tips on how to achieve the perfect linen lampshade.

Why Pure Linen Is Perfect for Lampshades
Unlike other textiles, linen’s subtle slub weave creates a rich, organic texture. When light shines through, it produces a soft, diffused glow - ideal for creating warm and inviting interiors.
Linen also handles the structural demands of lampshade making beautifully. It’s breathable and holds its shape well, making application onto the Stick It® Self Adhesive Lampshade Backing panel in our Lampshade Making Kits, smooth and reliable.
Key benefits for Lampshade Makers:
Natural texture enhances the lampshade’s finish
Beautiful light diffusion, even with warm or neutral bulbs
Easy to cut, handle and bond with our Stick It® PVC backing
Made from 100% natural fibres - a sustainable choice

Five Carefully Curated Colours
Our Pure Linen range comes in five timeless shades, chosen to suit a wide range of interior styles:
Azure Blue – a cool, modern tone perfect for statement lighting
Ginger – warm and rich, ideal for cosy reading corners
Jungle – deep green for bold, botanical interiors
Perfectly Pale – soft, neutral linen that works anywhere
Putty – earthy and versatile, for classic or contemporary spaces
Each fabric is 138 cm wide, giving you the flexibility to work with different lampshade sizes — from small bedside shades to large feature pendants.

Tips for Making the Perfect Linen Lampshade
Linen is wonderfully workable, but these tips can make your lampshade making process even smoother:
Pre-press or lightly steam the fabric to remove any fold lines before starting to make your lampshade.
Use a sharp rotary cutter or scissors to keep edges clean and reduce fraying.
Don’t skip turning over your panel once you’ve applied your linen – checking it’s applied smoothly is key to a professional lampshade. Use a Lampshade Squeegee to ensure perfect results.

Add an extra 1cm fabric margin along the long side of the panel edge, to compensate for any frays, when finishing your lampshade.

Consider lining your shade with a warm toned fabric or wallpaper, using our Double Sided Lampshade Panels to enhance the fabric’s natural glow.
With linen fabrics that have a more open weave, consider applying Fraystop to the edges of the fabric before cutting. This bonds the fibres together to create a clean cut edge.
The Linen Look: Style Inspiration
Whether your aesthetic leans modern minimalism, coastal calm, or country rustic, pure linen offers incredible styling versatility.
Pair Perfectly Pale with warm brass fittings for a soft, elegant look.
Use Jungle with black or rattan bases for bold, earthy statements.
Combine Ginger linen with patterned trims for a vintage-inspired finish.
Because linen filters light so softly, it’s perfect for ambient lighting - creating atmosphere without harsh glare. See our favourite picks of similar linen colourways to our collection, giving you and example of what you can achieve.

A Sustainable Choice for Makers
Linen is made from flax, a fast-growing plant that requires far less water and pesticides than cotton. It’s naturally biodegradable, strong, and long-lasting. Choosing linen for your lampshades means creating lighting that’s as eco-conscious as it is beautiful.
Whether you’re a seasoned lampshade maker or just starting out, our Pure Linen range offers everything you need to create timeless, tactile and elegant lighting. Bring your next handmade lampshade to life with the beauty of natural linen.

That point about linen filtering light softly to create atmosphere without harsh glare is exactly the principle that makes or breaks any display setup. LEGO Technic builders run into the same thing — a finished model under regular room light looks flat, but get the lighting right and all that mechanical detail suddenly reads the way it's supposed to. A lego technic light kit works on the same logic: plug-in LEDs designed for specific set numbers, clean wire routing through the bricks, warm glow that makes the engineering actually visible. Different medium, same instinct for getting the light to do the work.
